Welcome to College Life: East Lansing!

This is an all inclusive site sponsored by Michigan State University and maintained by the Community Liaison, Erin Carter. The website is designed to acclimate MSU students to life in East Lansing. MSU students are members of the East Lansing community regardless of whether they live on campus in the residence halls or off-campus in the neighborhoods. Michigan State is committed to promoting student success both on and off campus. In addition to this website, the Community Liaison also publishes the Off-Campus Living Guide, which includes much of the information on this website in printed format and is distributed to students living off-campus in East Lansing through relationships with key landlords.

  • Winter responsiblities: Snow and ice removal Shoveling- students

    With winter weather upon us, it is important for all East Lansing residents, including students, to become familiar with snow and ice removal responsibilities. The snow ordinance was revised in 2011 to make it more clear for all those who live in East Lansing. Take note so that you are aware of your responsibility and the action needed on your part! If the snow falls before noon on a given day, you have until midnight that day to shovel it off your sidewalks. If snow falls after noon on a given day, you have until midnight of the next day to shovel it off your sidewalks. For more information, click the title of this story and read on!

  • MSU College of Law Housing Clinic

    The Housing Law Clinic at the Michigan State University College of Law is a law school clinic committed to providing the low to moderate income residents of Michigan with legal advocacy on housing and related consumer problems or issues in a variety of ways. The Clinic can provide legal assistance and advice on many different issues or questions that may arise regarding housing. These topics include: landlord-tenant, housing discrimination, public housing, subsidized housing, land contracts, land use, foreclosures, affordable housing, and homeownership.

  • Winter Glow event reindeer face

    Mark your calendar for the first-ever Winter Glow event in East Lansing. This free winter event will take place on Saturday, December 3rd, from 3- 6 pm in downtown East Lansing. Activities include a live music tent, an outdoor movie, shopping specials, marshmallow roasting, ice carving, reindeer petting, and more! Learn more on the Winter Glow website and plan to join the festivities!

  • Construction & development on Ann St. Ann St. rendering

    You may have noticed that the once familiar restaurant, The Post in downtown East Lansing is now gone and in its place is a large hole. Soon, we will see construction begin on two distinct developments in that location that will provide a mix of retail shopping and dining, as well as housing options (rental and non-rental).   • East Lansing Mayor and Mayor Pro Tem elected Council oath

    On November 16, East Lansing City Council elected Diane Goddeeris and Nathan Triplett to the leadership roles of East Lansing Mayor and East Lansing Mayor Pro Tem, respectively. Mayor Goddeeris and Mayor Pro Tem Triplett will hold these offices for a two-year term.
